Exploring the Infinite Current:
OKRAA’s La Gran Corriente and the Impact of A Strangely Isolated Place
This post continues our October content recap from Escala de Grisos on CAMP Radio, focusing on one of our favorite labels: A Strangely Isolated Place (ASIP).
For those who tune in often, ASIP needs no introduction—it’s a label we've followed closely since the beginning, known for curating an exceptional selection of ambient, techno, and experimental sounds with a distinctly emotive and cinematic quality. Founded by Ryan Griffin, ASIP began as a blog in the early 2000s, evolving into a respected label celebrated for its meticulous curation and visual artistry.
This month, we featured Colombian-born artist OKRAA (aka Juan Carlos Torres Alonso) and his new album, La Gran Corriente, released on October 30th. Known for blending organic textures with innovative electronic production, OKRAA's music resonates with his Colombian roots and a global ambient soundscape. During a recent visit to Bogotá, Torres experienced a profound shift that redefined his musical approach. Abandoning structured processes for a freer, spontaneous flow, he created La Gran Corriente, an album inspired by what he calls an “infinite current.” This work represents a new creative phase for OKRAA, infused with introspection and layered textures that deepen with each listen.
ASIP’s knack for unearthing gems like La Gran Corriente keeps us returning to their catalog. Consistently pushing ambient music forward, they champion works blending ambient, techno, and experimental soundscapes with introspective depth—a hallmark that makes them one of our favorite labels. OKRAA’s latest is no exception; it’s atmospheric, unpredictable, and resonant, a testament to ASIP's ongoing impact on the ambient music landscape.
We shared the track "Canto Luminoso a la Luna" on the show, and it’s a perfect example of OKRAA's fusion of ambient textures and rhythmic experimentation. Have a listen if you haven't already, and let us know what you think of OKRAA's new direction—an evolution that brings a fresh, spontaneous energy to ASIP's already impressive roster.
Wow thank you so much!
